The Santa Fe Rage Academy is a docu-drama set against the backdrop of the 1980 riot at the New Mexico State Penitentiary, the deadliest prison uprising in American history.

A young man, recently convicted of vehicular homicide, is sentenced to the penitentiary just weeks before the institution erupts into violence. As rioting inmates kill 33 prisoners, assault guards, and burn the facility to the ground, he risks his own life by helping others escape the unfolding carnage.

The screenplay is written by JD Herrera, who served as a special prosecutor in the aftermath of the riot, bringing firsthand knowledge of the event’s human and institutional consequences to the story.
